Director's Statement
This one minute film details a man’s descent into oblivion, as his appetite pushes him just a bit too far and he self-destructs. The film uses simple drawings, crayons and paint to create a short, succinct statement. The man journeys through an aquarium, so gluttonous that he can’t resist eating the exhibits. He eats fish, crustaceans, even a snake, accompanied by the gruesome sounds of his chewing and digestive juices. The film was created as the result of a brief given by Bob Godfrey, as a First Year project. Each student randomly chose one of the Seven Deadly Sins. For gluttony, I decided to show the inner workings of the digestive system. As the man eats greedily we see his stomach churning, in cut-out form, as in medical diagrams. Since gluttony is a deadly sin there can be no happy ending for the film’s protagonist.
