Turning Point (1995)
Grad film
Directed by Lucy Childs
Synopsis
A pustule of discontent bursts into the relationship between a red herring and a gift horse.
Director's Statement
What would be the nature of their relationship if a Gift Horse and a Red Herring were to live in each others' pockets? In Turning Point I tried to get inside their heads and imagine their psychology as well as what a herring's pocket would be like. Using mostly idioms and some foibles I attempted to document in shorthand how couples get on each others' nerves and reach breaking point. Turning Point includes the combination of two and three dimensional animation, a technique which I have continued in more recent digital work. A couple's relationship involves narratives on many levels some of which are non-linear; there is a timeless quality to love and this film also attempts to make character animation more abstract.
