Director's Statement
"Billy Sink" is a morality tale where Billy's bad behaviour has direct repercussions. He moves through different worlds each of which have a different atmosphere and use different animation techniques (combinations of model, pixillation and oil on glass).Billy's home enviroment is later parallelled by a Giant's kitchen which in contrast is dark and sinister and where the scale of things both physically and emotionally has altered. The Giant's world is fantastical and yet also 'real' because of the use of pixillation for the human 'Giant'. The garden which is the transition between the two worlds represents the temptation of luxury and an easy life, but is in fact a facade. I wanted the bright colours and cut-out scenery to reflect a child-like appeal, but also in its exaggerated perfection to give the audience a sense of eminent doom. My main interest is in strong characterization, and I want the viewer to identify with Billy, and feel that he has learned something by the end of the film.
