At the Drop of a Hat (1998)

Grad film

Directed by Hotessa Laurence

Synopsis
A rather smart object of desire.
Director's Statement
The fundamental core of this film revolves around the desire for the unattainable; of a dream so far removed from reality that there is no ‘danger’ of ever realising it. A tiny yet obsessive woman has a deep longing for a hat which she passes every day in shop window. Eventually the hat is sold and a chase ensues leading her across town.

I wanted to attempt to make a film with fast pace and to pull an audience along with a tight narrative. I wanted people to identify with the principle character and empathise with her reactions and behaviour.
