Director's Statement
My intention was to make a short film which dealt with the meeting of the real world and a fantasy world. The boy builds himself a rocket to escape with his toy soldier to the moon. It was important however, that the film did not have a fantasy ending and that the boy did not make it to the moon. The point was that although the boy’s imagination took him away for a moment, the reality is that the rocket does not fly and instead crashes at the bottom of the stairs. At the end I felt it was almost too downbeat so felt compelled to add a glimmer of hope as the boy is undettered and begins a new fantasy.
