Grad film

Directed by Gary White

Synopsis
An emotional journey into one person’s experience of the dyslexic world.
Director's Statement
A film about dyslexia. Based on my experience expressing the difficulty of understanding information which is effecting oneself emotionally. Taking a live action approach, I used a tunnel and image of myself to replicate a personal intense, and claustrophobic experience. I also used a commonly known saying which would appear over the tunnel as a visual message, this would link the idea of what the condition is like with the emotion of the experience itself.

I combined this with moments of animation which is seed in a sketchbook. These moments depict the controlled fantasy world of myself as a boy. Even here I/he is affected by the same problems forcing me/him to realise the actuality of mine/his problems.

Throughout the tunnel sequences, abstract sound is used to express the internal atmosphere of his mind. While in the animated sequences, music is used to evoke the emotion of place and sympathy for the boy.
