Rosabelle Believe (2002)

Grad film

Directed by Tim Shore

Synopsis
In early cinema, the illusion of movement seemed the provenance of magic, and the movies and magic were spectacularly combined in the figure of Harry Houdini, the greatest escapologist and illusionist. The film is wound around the act of spelling out the word - belive - a secret coded message agreed between Houdini and his wife, Rosabelle, to be used as a confirmation, after Houdini’s death, of his escape from the grave.
Director's Statement
Rosabelle Believe - A dream film about seeing and believing - undermines the illusion of the film movement through an assault on the figure of Houdini, represented in 12 repeated frames of archive footage and an Edison wax cylinder recording of his voise.
