Everything Turns (2004)
1st Year
Directed by Max Hattler
Synopsis
Life is a mess. It makes your head spin and before you know it it’s over. A very short film about time, life and death. Inspired by the poem Vertigo by Durs Grünbein.
Director's Statement
Everything Turns is inspired by Durs Grünbein’s poem Vertigo, which deals with the role of the individual within time and space, the shortness and messiness of human existence, and the apparent inability of the individual to significantly grow and change within a lifetime. I decided to contrast the heaviness of the subject with the lightness of morphing drawings, and a simplified drawing style. Using only a minute for the film, the aim was to amplify the sense of urgency of our existence. By framing such a deep, existential subject in this fast and fluid, light and sometimes almost comical way, I tried to create a film which is at once serious and untroubled, heavy and delicate, disheartening and uplifting.
