Terra Infirma (2013)
Grad film
Directed by Betsy Dadd
Synopsis
A still life painting becomes charged with motion as the earth is disturbed. Gaining in momentum, quietude gradually builds to a turbulent crescendo. Painted on large scale – the physicality and the materiality of this animation describes the magnitude and fragility of the landscape. The images are destructed frame by frame, and eventually the paper erodes, as do the subjects within.
Director's Statement
I think animation is all about movement and timing. I like to manipulate the drawings in my films to such a degree that they become completely abstract moving shapes. I use those abstract elements, characters and the energy of the overall animated movement to tell stories.
