Lying Belly (2015)

Grad film

Directed by Alice de Barrau

Synopsis
She hears. She feels.
It grows, though it’s not really there.
It’s lying.
Director's Statement
The film focuses entirely on the character self exploring in a struggle with her own desires and body. As she obsessively tries to fill herself, it - the desire, the hole - takes more space, overtakes completely the woman. The line itself represents her changing behavior , starting from a rather stable line to an aggressive continuous stroke as her obsession grows stronger, intercut with shots of the matter moving inside of her. Concepts of maternity, body image and creation process do come across, and although directing to a visceral reaction the film is open to interpretation
